Welcome to The Neighbourhood: stay connected in your Roost

Are you looking to chat with the other people living in your Roost? Perhaps you’d like to help your fellow residents with simple errands if they’re self-isolating? Or maybe you’re a resident who could do with a hand.

Well then, we’re excited to welcome you to The Neighbourhood! The brand new social app launches today, allowing you to exclusively connect to other students living at your Student Roost property.

Community has always been at the heart of all our student accommodation, whether through packed social calendars or access to 24/7 support from our friendly onsite teams. But while face-to-face events aren’t possible right now, that doesn’t mean you can’t connect with others.

With the dark nights setting in and all of us spending more time indoors, The Neighbourhood offers a new way to reach out to those around you – whether you’re looking to support your flatmates, or just want to chat and stay social.

How to get the app

First things first: you can download The Neighbourhood on Google Play or Apple Store.

Once installed, when you register for the first time you’ll be asked to enter an access code – look out for this in an email or speak to a member of the team.

The app responds to your location, so you’ll only be able to access this when you’re in the property itself. This way, you can be safe in the knowledge that you’re chatting to people who live in your Roost.

Hello Neighbour

It’s easy to get the app up and running. Choose to sign in through Facebook, Google or LinkedIn, then simply follow a quick tutorial. Woohoo, you’re in!

Your profile picture and username will most likely be pulled through from the social profile you used to log in, but you can create or update your profile easily enough by selecting the head-and-shoulders icon.

To link up with old and new friends, the app uses hashtags to help you start making connections. Unlike hashtags on Insta or Twitter though, you don’t need to type them out – just select them to follow and join the chat.

You’ll find the following hashtags included when you log in:

#howcanihelp

Got a spare moment? It’s cool to be kind so select this featured hashtag to see if any of your neighbours need your support while self-isolating or just feeling under the weather. This could be anything from helping them with a delivery, nipping to the shops on their behalf or even just having a virtual chat to check in with them.

If you’re self-isolating, you can also search the #howcanihelp hashtag to find support with the everyday things. It’s always great to see our residents helping each other out, with so many of you happy to offer a hand – and now it’s easier than ever to reach out. Just ask via the app. Sorted.

#gettoknowyourneighbours

Staying in doesn’t mean missing out. Choose this hashtag to directly connect with those who are feeling (virtually) sociable around you and expand your circle of mates.

You can also create a group chat, perfect for planning online events or sharing hints and tips. You’ll be the first to know about any upcoming virtual events taking place at your Roost too, so you can say no to FOMO.

Whichever of our cities you’re in, start the conversation by downloading The Neighbourhood today. You’re just one click away from connecting with the people who make your home away from home – and we’re in agreement with student-staple Aussie soap Neighbours that, yes, neighbours can become good friends. Happy chatting!
