Are you staying at university over Christmas?

Staying at university over Christmas? Check out these five fun activities to get you into the festive season.

While most students will be getting ready to go home for the holidays, more and more people are choosing to spend Christmas at their university accommodation. From cramming in some extra studying to saving on travel costs, there’s certainly some great perks to staying at university over the Christmas break.

But with many students away from their families, it can be hard not to feel homesick during this time of year. That’s why Student Roost has come to the rescue, with our list of great activities to take part in this Christmas:

1. Enjoy Christmas Day with a host family. For international students looking for a traditional Christmas, why not spend it with a host family? It’s a fantastic way to immerse yourself in British holiday culture, from tasting home-cooked food to even helping put Christmas decorations up!

2. University Christmas lunch. If you’d rather celebrate Christmas with fellow students, then check with your university to see if they will be holding an event. Many universities will host a Christmas lunch, so be sure to book your place before they sell out.

3. Tutor. Has spending money on Christmas presents left you slightly broke? Get paid to tutor younger students. With exams taking place in January, many schoolkids could benefit from your expertise and knowledge (leaving you to benefit with some extra pocket money).

4. Volunteer. With activities such as making Christmas cards or gift-wrapping taking place this holiday season, you could use these skills to help others out. Christmas can also be quite a lonely period, so why not visit your local hospital or old people’s home and keep others company? You could even end up making a new friend!

5. Share your traditions with other students. One of the best things about university accommodation is meeting people from all over the world, with many students hailing from a number of different countries. So why not hold a multi-cultural Christmas? Exchange different traditions and learn something new about your neighbours (plus it’s a great opportunity to get some extra Christmas presents).

From all of us at Student Roost, we’d like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
